The PCT is accountable to the Avon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Strategic Health Authority for its performance against national standards and targets. The Health Authority is supported by the
Health Care Commission for Health Inspection
which is responsible for inspecting all NHS organisations. This includes organisation specific inspections (the PCT expects to receive its first inspection in 2004) service specific inspections and annual performance assessments for star ratings.
The PCT has participated in a self assessment of Child Protection arrangements led by the
Health Care Commission and we have identified 3 areas for local onward work. The PCT will be participating in a countywide review of coronary heart disease services in December 2003. The PCT received 3 stars - the top rating - for its performance over 2002/3.
