Part of the Corporate Governance Framework within the NHS are the Controls Assurance Standards. These standards cover 21 areas of operation within NHS organisations and are used to self assess compliance against each of the standards, within those organisations. Once self assessments are completed, scores are returned to the Controls Assurance Standards Unit who benchmark the results across the country.
These assessments take place annually and action plans are in place to improve the PCTs compliance with each of the standards.
