Thank you to Health Care Staff
25/09/2006
Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Primary Care Trust will formally thank two members of its this week as part of its Robert Kingsland Award for Excellence.
Ruth FitzJohn, Chair, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury PCT, said:
“The PCT receives many letters of thanks from patients and relatives for the care and kindness given by staff, but the PCT wanted to go one step further and thank staff publicly. Patients and our own staff members, who have been particularly impressed by the care and dedication of individual staff, were invited earlier this year to nominate individuals to receive the award, which is made on an annual basis. Two awards will be made this year.”
Sister Julie Ellery, Avon Ward, Tewkesbury Hospital
Julie Ellery was nominated by Julie Garnham, former Modern Matron at Tewkesbury Hospital, for her inspirational leadership to take nursing forward on Avon Ward following her return from maternity leave. Julie organised an away day for all three Ward Sisters. With their suggestions and Julie’s own innovative ideas a realistic action plan was formed involving all ward team members. Successful delivery of the action plan and Julie’s efforts achieved improved team morale, increased recruitment up to normal ward levels, created additional staff office and storage space and therefore improved patient care resulting from better skill mix and changed ward routine.
Jane Crowther, retired Theatre Sister, Tewkesbury Hospital
Jane Crowther was nominated by Sarah Griffiths, Hospital Administrator, Tewkesbury Hospital. Since retiring in 2004 Jane has continued to be a huge support to Tewkesbury Hospital and has been instrumental in the establishment of a volunteers program. From
rallying potential volunteers (to the extent that over 70 local residents have put their names forward so far) to donning a red tabard and mucking in herself, Jane has ensured the volunteers program will be a success. This award is an opportunity to thank her for all the determination and spirit she has shown in getting this project - which is making such a difference -going and continuing.
The award winners will each receive an engraved paperweight and a financial gift in recognition of their efforts. An award ceremony will be held as part of the PCT Annual Meeting on 26 September at Hesters Way Community Resource Centre.
