Roadworks around Tewkesbury Hospital - Advance notice to all visitors to the Hospital

01/09/2005

Road speed calming and maintenance work is planned for several roads around Tewkesbury Hospital next month. The Hospital is advising patients, visitors and staff well in advance about the roadworks, so that they can plan ahead.

Tewkesbury Hospital Modern Matron, Julie Garnham, said:

"We wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible, so that visitors to the Hospital will be prepared for the possible slight delays in reaching the Hospital. We have specifically alerted the Gloucestershire Ambulance Trust, who will still have speedy access to the site during the period."

She continued:
"Staff and anyone needing to access the hospital from either of the roads affected have also been guaranteed access, although through access along these roads may not be possible. We will still have full access to the front of the hospital, although traffic flows will be controlled by temporary traffic lights, so it may take longer to get here."

Roadworks

There are two sets of roadworks planned by the County Council. The first will involve building road humps and speed cushions along a number of roads to the back of the hospital. Howells Road and Swilgate Road will be
affected for one week.

Work on this traffic calming scheme will start 19/09/05 and will finish by 24/09/05.

The second set of roadworks will affect Barton Street, along the front of the hospital. This work is part of a large package of structural carriageway maintenance currently being undertaken by Gloucestershire County Council. Work will be taking place from the Memorial roundabout, along Barton Street, and as far as the traffic lights into the Morrisons Supermarket.

Work will start here on 19/09/05 and will finish by 24/09/05, at the latest.
